Duct Installation
Ducts are sized by the air they need to carry, not by what will fit through the joists, and that tension is where most poor duct systems come from. A run that is too small moves air too fast and noisily and starves the room at the end of it; one that is too large lets air slow and lose the throw it needs to mix with the room.

Improving Airflow

The usual culprits are unglamorous. So will a system that was sized for equipment replaced two generations ago.
Balancing is the last step and the one most often skipped. Dampers set to distribute air deliberately are what stop the room nearest the equipment from taking more than its share while the far bedroom takes less. It costs nothing but time, and it resolves a good proportion of the complaints that would otherwise be answered by replacing perfectly serviceable equipment.

How do I know if my ducts are leaking?
Rooms that never reach temperature, a system that runs constantly, and dust that reappears immediately after cleaning are the common signs. Is duct tape the right thing to seal ducts with?

Why is one room always colder than the rest?
