If your house has radiators, a conventional central air system is not a straightforward option — there is nowhere to put the supply and return trunks without losing closets and ceiling height. High-velocity systems use flexible two-inch tubing that can be threaded through joist bays and old chases, which suits a plaster-and-lath house where opening walls is expensive.
